I extend sincere congratulation to Mr. Elton F. Callwood, the Marketing Director of Relyon Marketing Group, for the production of ‘SAILING BVI’: The British Virgin Islands Maritime Tourism Magazine.
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has become a favorite of sailors and a premier Caribbean sailing destination within the last few decades, and as a result, my Government has made key decisions to open avenues to foster the development process and growth within the maritime industry of the Territory.
This sector has proven its resilience by rising to the challenge and playing its part in laying the foundation for a bright future for this Territory.
It is, therefore, an opportune time to launch a publication which highlights all that the Maritime Tourism Industry has to offer as another key aspect of BVI life.
Sailors come to the BVI to experience signature events like the annual Spring Regatta; the coveted Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous, or to enjoy the August sloop races, a highlight of which is the friendly but spirited competition between the Governor and myself.
I am therefore encouraging current and prospective associations to submit bids to host regional and international maritime tourism events as a means to continue to draw visitors, and serious competitors seeking to participate in a festive, relaxed, picturesque setting.
Given the overall benefits of Maritime Tourism, the BVI has already hosted regional maritime events, and we look forward to hosting additional activities in the near future!
Congratulations again to Relyon Marketing for taking a step forward in this venture. I do believe that readers and potential visitors will indeed find ‘SAILING BVI’ as a significant information tool of guidance to enjoy the host of maritime activities offered in our beautiful Virgin Islands.
Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith, OBE
Former Premier of the Virgin Islands
